Sally Kate Winters Family Services exists to give broken children a safe place to land.  The babies who come here need someone to wrap them up in blankets and tuck them in at night.  The children need strong arms to lift them up to the basketball goal and steady them on a bike.  The adolescents and teenagers need a place to belong.  They need a friend to listen.  They need clean clothes that fit, a bed with a pillow, and food that fills up their bellies and makes the dark circles under their eyes go away.  They need to play outside and be pushed on a swing.  They need boundaries.  They need love.

The children who need Sally Kate Winters Family Services are forced to do difficult things every single day, through no fault or choice of their own.  They are abused and powerless.  They are neglected and forced to fend for themselves.  They are separated from siblings and shuffled from place to place.  Children who need SKW have endured more hurt in their short lives than most of us will pause to think about, let alone experience, in our own.

The next call for Emergency Shelter placement will come.  And Sally Kate Winters Family Services will be a safe place to land.  We will hold hands and offer understanding.  We will suffer by their side.  We will share their joy.  We will be forever changed while we give.
Our sense of family will grow.

Support Sally Kate Winters Family Services. Be a part of our family.

In order to create awareness among our community and families, Sally Kate Winters Family Services organizes our annual Child Abuse Prevention Month Parade involving local elementary schools and daycares.  The parade will take place in downtown West Point on Friday, April 1st, 2016 at 9:30 am.

School line up begins at 9:00am on the Kitty Bryan Dill Memorial Parkway between Kid Town and the Bryan Public Library.  The parade route will surround Sally Kate Winters Memorial Park beginning on Broad to Commerce and Main Streets and ending on East Street.

Each class or group is responsible for creating a poster or sign promoting this year's theme,

"Don't be fooled by the signs of child abuse. Be Aware. Be Educated."

Please show your support by attending the parade, wearing blue, cheering and being an enthusiastic supporter of our community's children!

Our Spring Into Action 5K & Fun Run is also in April each year! This is such a fun event and such a great way to show your support for healthy child development.  The 5K and Family Fun Run is an opportunity to get your heart pumping and feel good about supporting our Emergency Shelter Program!  It is so inspiring to see kids from 2 to 10 running in the Fun Run and giving it their all for children in need!

Prevent Child Abuse America has selected a blue Pinwheel as the new national symbol for child abuse prevention.  Each April, people are called to action in support of healthy child development and mark National Child Abuse Prevention Month.  This is a time to recognize that we can each play a part in promoting the social and emotional well being of children in families and communities. Read more about this historical month here.
